well this week started out with a trip down to wild florida! this is a wildlife reserve that a member of the church owns! so missionaries get in free! yaya! it was so fun! then we kept on doing missionary work this week and wow did we have an experience!
so we were trying to find a less active member of our ward and we arrived at this house with a lot of cars in front of it! as we walk to the door we see that every single one of these cars has a rosary on the rear view mirror! so we were
like hmmm somehting is fishy...but we kept going anyways! we knock on the door and this lady answers and immediatley ushers us inside! so we go inside and there are about 30 people in this house and they are all surrounding a statue of the virgin mary uttering incantations and holding candles and such! and us 2 mormon missionaries are sitting in the back not really knowing what is going on...10 minutes of chanting later they finally stop and then they recognize us and they give us chairs right in the middle of the room and one of the members starts to read from a book and give a sermon! we just wanted to get out of there as fast as possible! but when the lady was done and we thought that the whole meeting was done the leader of the group stopped everyone and asked if we the missionaries had something to say to them....,talk about pressure! we were outnumbered 15 to 1! and one lady said something to the effect of, "dont go bashing religion now ya hear!" (oh did i mention that they were all spanish?) so there i stood helpless because my companion decided he would stay seated and let me have the load on this one, alone....me vs 30 catholics....heart beat quickening...so i decided to go with the most neutral scripture i could think off in that moment...john 3:16! haha i know i wimped out but its all i could think of! but i shared my testimony and got a lot of amens and hallelujahs! and sat down...THEN we had a party and they fed us cake and all of that fun stuff! but man was it weird in the beginning....i think something that we learned that day was that a less active didnt live there anymore! hahahaha wow what a night....
also this week seemed to follow that trend with a lot of catholic influence to every person we talked to it seemed...but we helped them on their way!
also the world cup is going on and i love it! haha jk it is just awesome being a spanish missionary and having almost every single door that i knock on have the world cup playing in the background! we even had a crazy guy try and pull us over while we were driving to ask us if colombia had won! (i think it was because we had a colombian flag in our window) but just another day in crazy kissimmee florida for you!
i love you all and hope you have a great week!
